January 9–18, 2009. 9-day mission to circumnavigate the island of Hawaii. Average speed observed: 1.57 knots. Maximum Sea State: 5 (10-foot waves, 15-knot winds).

Mission objective and results

This successful engineering test demonstrated the Wave Glider’s ability to operate in offshore waters over extended periods. Circling Hawaii provided exposure to a variety of conditions.
