METOC Wave Glider equipped with hull-mounted ADCP

METOC Wave Glider

Two Wave Glider solutions for Meteorology and Oceanography are available. The base model gathers weather observations, meteorology and ocean current data. The expanded model (METOC Plus) adds wave and water sensors to measure waves (height, direction, period and spectrum), and water temperature, dissolved oxygen and salinity.

Applications

  • Now-casting
  • Satellite ground truth measurement
  • Buoy replacement or augmentation
  • Forecasting, modelling or alerts of severe weather and ocean conditions
  • Operational routing and scheduling
  • Pre-site surveys for oil & gas, wind or other offshore installations
  • Evaluation of near-shore currents, waves and bathymetry
  • Disaster response modeling and management

Options

Both the METOC and the METOC Plus models are offered with Teledyne RDI ADCPs operating at one of two acoustic frequencies:

  • 600Khz for applications requiring higher measurement accuracy and resolution to a maximum depth of 70 meters
  • 300Khz for applications extending to a depth of 165 meters, but at lesser accuracy and resolution
Both the 600Khz and the 300Khz unit can be used to profile bottom depth to the sensor’s maximum range at an accuracy of +/- 2%.
